Chiropractic care is beneficial to expecting mothers and their baby

Many pregnant women ask themselves, is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy? And for some women who have never seen a chiropractor, the thought of seeing one during pregnancy may seem a bit strange. The truth is that chiropractors are usually highly trained to work with pregnant women.

During pregnancy your body goes through a lot of changes to prepare itself for the developing baby including a protruding abdomen, increased back curve, pelvic changes and postural adaptations, rapid increase/decrease in weight, changes in sleep patterns, altered appetite and eating habits. Each of these changes and more can result in subluxation and these subluxations not only affect you but also your unborn baby.

Chiropractic care can provide effective pain relief for the back, pelvic and hip pain that may be experienced during these changes. Chiropractor care is also beneficial during pregnancy to create pelvic balance and alignment. If the pelvis is not aligned correctly the size of the area available for creating the baby is reduced. This can also result in complications regarding the position of the baby during delivery.

Chiropractic care is safe and effective during pregnancy. Some chiropractors have even specialised training in prenatal care and use specific equipment to adjust a pregnant woman’s body. Regular chiropractic sessions can result in a healthier pregnancy, reduced nausea, decreased labour and delivery time, neck, back, pelvic and hip pain relief and could prevent the need of a caesarean section.

If you are expecting, it may be time to visit Optimal Chiro to relieve some tension from your body.
